With over 5000 sea creatures and 30 incredible displays, SEA LIFE Aquarium Kansas City by Merlin Entertainment is a top tourist attraction in the Midwest region of the U.S. When the opportunity to reimagine a successful international experience for the US market was presented to us, we knew just the right strategy to employ.
Enter The Doodle Reef! Part tropical ocean, part Silicon Valley, and all user imagination. Showcasing the beauty of the ocean and the real life creatures that live in it, we put together an integration strategy merging inspiration with imagination, where guests can create their very own virtual sea creatures and watch them come to life on screen within the live display.
Doodle Reef is the brainchild of Figment Productions out of the United Kingdom, and our role was to take their schematics and hardware specs and re-engineer them for deployment stateside. How did we do it, you ask? Well for starters, we needed to assemble the right team on a local level to ensure we stayed within budget and timeframe while still thinking proactively about the overall user experience and the end goal — happy visitors. We then made modifications to customize the configuration to fit the room and accommodate the long video runs and network connectivity, all of which was hard-wired.
Because efficiency in set-up and deployment is always a priority, we pre-staged and configured the experience on the East Coast first, ensuring we reverse engineered all specs perfectly. Once onsite, we configured the system and helped to calibrate the visual experience to align with the specifications provided by Figment.
